What's coming up in May

Here's what you've got to look forward to in May, in terms of movies, TV shows, DVD releases and games...Published on May 4, 2010,let's have a look what will come on this month.
Last month, we trialled putting together an article at the start of the month to let you know what was coming up in the weeks ahead. We asked you if you wanted us to do it again. You said yes. Thus, the following article is clearly all your fault...!
FILMS
Lots to watch out for in May. Iron Man 2 is already tearing up the box office in the UK, with its US roll-out coming on May 7th. Conversely, we get the terrible remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street on the 7th, which the US got last week.
A much better bet, and arguably the film to beat this month, is Chris Morris' terrific Four Lions. We've got a review of that here to explain more about it Hot Tub Time Machine reaches these shores on the 7th too, as well as the staggeringly-bad looking Brendan Fraser comedy vehicle Furry Vengeance.
It's a month of big blockbusters elsewhere. In the UK, we get Robin Hood from May 12th, Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time on the 21st, and, ahem, Sex And The City 2 on the 28th. We also get the belated UK release of Kevin Smith's Bruce Willis-starring comedy Cop Out on May 21st, and The Losers turns up on the 28th.
If you're on the lookout for smaller, interesting features, then American: The Bill Hicks Story lands on the 14th, Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans on the 21st (review here), and Christopher Smith's Triangle follow-up Black Death on the 28th. Rec 2 is out the same day, too.
TV
The ongoing adventures of Doctor Who continue throughout May, but the TV highlight is the end of a few series. Ashes To Ashes draws to a close this month for the last time, as do Lost, and24.
In the US, V, Fringe, Chuck and FlashForward all come to the end of their respective seasons, with only Fringe out of that lot definitely securing a renewal.
If you're on the lookout for something new to keep you occupied, then you could do worse then check out the marvellous Idris Elba, who starts a run as Luther on BBC One tonight.
And then there's the treat of a brand new Sky One Terry Pratchett adaptation to look forward to. Going Postal will be screened in two parts later this month...
GAMES
May is rarely the busiest month for interesting videogames, but this year could be the exception.
The main reason for this is the long, long awaited Alan Wake, which finally hits Xbox 360 on 14th May. Can. Not. Wait. Also, we get Lost Planet 2 on the 11th, Skate 3 on the 14th, Red Dead Redemption, Mod Nation Racers and Split/Second Velocity on the 21st. And on that same day is also the time for Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands to make its bow.
Finally, the 28th sees Activision's Blur, the tie-in game to Clash Of The Titans and Pirates Of The Caribbean: Armada Of The Damned.
DVD
The UK's biggest DVD and Blu-ray release this month is probably Sherlock Holmes, which turns up on the 17th May. It's already out in the US, of course, as are Where The Wild Things Are and Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, which get disc releases on the 10th.
Elsewhere, we get 44 Inch Chest on the 10th, while on the 17th is True Blood season 2, The Road, Shameless series 7, Ninja Assassin and Ross Noble's Australian Trip. The 24th brings a pair of Best Picture Oscar nominees - Precious and Up In The Air - while the month is rounded out on the 31st with Daybreakers, The Book Of Eli and Astro Boy.
Our DVD highlight, though, could well be, at last, the first series of the classic John Sullivan sitcom Dear John, which finally - finally! - arrives on 10th May.
Minority Report is the catalogue Blu-ray choice of the month, although Armageddon is landing over here at the end of May too.

• At 7, ABC has Figure Skating, followed by new episodes of 'Extreme Makeover' and 'Desperate Housewives dvd Season' and the series premiere of 'Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution.'
• CBS has a new '60 Minutes' at 7, then new episodes of 'The Amazing Race,' 'Undercover Boss,' and ' COLD CASE dvd.'

• NBC has a new 'Dateline' at 7, followed by new episodes of 'Minute To Win It,' and 'The Celebrity Apprentice.'
FOX has two new episodes of 'Til Death' at 7, then new episodes of 'The Simpsons dvd box set,' 'The Cleveland Show,' 'Family Guy dvd season,' and 'Sons of Anarchy Seasons dvd Tucson.'
• At 8, Food Network has a new 'Challenge,' followed by new episodes of 'Ultimate Recipe Showdown' and 'Iron Chef America.'
• Discovery, Animal Planet, Green, and TLC have the series premiere (two episodes) of 'Life' starting at 8.
• Nickelodeon has a new 'Dora the Explorer' at 8.
• Style has a new 'Ruby' at 8.
• At 9, A&E has the season premiere of 'Gene Simmons' Family Jewels,' then the series premiere of 'Kirstie Alley's Big Life.'
• HBO has a new episode of 'The Pacific' at 9, followed by a new 'How To Make It In America.'
• At 10, AMC has the season premiere of 'Breaking Bad dvd season.'
• History Channel has a new 'Ax Men' at 10.
• At midnight, Cartoon Network has a new 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force.'
• At 12:30AM, Cartoon Network has a new 'Tim and Eric's Awesome Show, Great Job.'
